Social Media Production Company Sued for Sexual Harassment and Pregnancy Discrimination

Celebrity YouTube personality MrBeast and his social media production company, Beast Industries, face allegations of sexual harassment and pregnancy discrimination. The company employs over 700 employees in Greenville, North Carolina.

Former executive Lorrayne Mavromatis alleges the company, including MrBeast, fomented an environment that demeaned female employees. The company’s former chief executive, James Warren, purportedly made inappropriate comments about Mavromatis’s appearance and created reasons for her to come to his home alone. MrBeast (real name: Jimmy Donaldson) allegedly refused to work directly with Mavromatis because “her appearance had a certain effect” on him. Then, when Mavromatis complained to Warren about a male client’s advances, he allegedly told her to be flattered by the attention. She states that male employees would tell women to “shut up” during meetings and mock female contestants on the company’s show “Beast Games.”

Mavromatis said that getting hired by Beast Industries seemed like a dream opportunity. However, she quickly realized that it was not what she thought. She claims the internal handbook advises the staff to do “everything you can to empower boys when filming,” and that “no does not mean no.” The New York Times confirmed those lines do exist in a Beast Industries document titled “How to Succeed in MrBeast Production.” Mavromatis asserts the company demoted her after she complained about the work environment. She alleges that when she learned she was pregnant, the company did not provide any information about its maternity leave policy. Beast Industries fired her after she returned from her maternity leave.

Beast Industries denies the allegations. The spokesperson told the New York Times that the lawsuit is “built on deliberate misinterpretations and categorically false statements.”
