Nearly 175,000 Citigroup, Inc. employees will receive training on how to best work with the bank’s internal AI programs. The training will focus on crafting relevant prompts to make AI searches more efficient. In an email to staff, the bank said AI is “turning work that once took hours into tasks done in minutes.” Citi asserts those tools “mark the beginning of a new way of working.” Citi has implemented its own suite of AI tools, including one that helps staff analyze documents, create presentations, and conduct research; and another that provides guidance on compliance, risk, HR, and finance policies.
Citi’s head of technology and business enablement told employees that the “training is a practical guide to mastering a key skill for the future and unlocking the full potential of AI.” He shared that staff members had already input over 6.5 million prompts. Citi wants to maximize the use of those prompts, “teaching our colleagues the possibilities of great prompting versus basic prompting to generate impactful results.” The new program is entitled, “Asking Smart Questions – Prompting like a Pro.” The training program adapts to the user’s expertise, taking just a few minutes for experts and around 30 minutes for beginner AI users, and must be completed within 60 days of training assignment.
Other banks are also finding ways to use AI in their work. Wells Fargo sent 4,000 of its employees to Stanford’s Human-Centered AI program. CNBC reported that JPMorgan has an AI program to create an investment banking deck in 30 seconds. AI experts continue to assert that the successful use of AI tools largely depends on the strength of the prompts.
Organizations should identify the risks, rewards, and appropriate uses for AI within their industry as they embark on AI training initiatives.
