Harvey Weinstein Reaches Tentative $44 Million Settlement with Accusers

Harvey Weinstein has reached a tentative $44-million settlement with women who have accused him of sexual assault as well as creditors of his former studio. $30 million would be earmarked for accusers, unsecured creditors and former Weinstein Company employees under the proposed settlement. The remaining $14 million would be used to pay legal fees of the company’s directors and officers. Insurance companies are expected to make the payment on behalf of the Weinstein Company.

Some of Weinstein’s accusers who were part of the negotiations have voiced their dissatisfaction with the proposed settlement amount as it provides a sizable payout to the Weinstein Company board members. After attorneys’ fees and payouts to other creditors are deducted from the $30 million, each sexual misconduct plaintiff could potentially receive a small sum.
